A Word From The Editor
Welcome back to the March edition of the Leaders e-Newsletter from The Old Schoolhouse Magazine! We pray that you are well and blessed of the Lord! Happy springtime!
This month in the Leaders e-News, we are going to discuss one of my favorite topics--field trips! Are you ready for spring break, and itching to get out and plan some fun field trips with your homeschool group and families? I hope you will enjoy this latest issue, which is filled with information on organizing field trips for homeschool groups. Be sure to check out this month's contest, where you can win a Homeschoolopoly game!
Here in Indiana, it has been bitter cold and we have been snowed under two feet of snow during February. Thankfully, last month our family was able to take a small break from the winter to travel to sunny and warm Florida to speak at the Pinellas Parent Educators Association's homeschool conference. While in the Orlando area, our family stopped in for a field trip at The HolyLand Experience and enjoyed a wonderful day of learning as we experienced the living museum and biblical park. One of our favorite features was our visit to The Scriptorium Center For Biblical Antiquities, which houses a collection of ancient papyrus, cuneiforms, scrolls, and Bibles and provides an interactive journey through the history of the Holy Bible.
We would like to hear from you! What field trips do your homeschool groups plan during the year? Do you have any helpful tips for organization? Join our conversation on this topic at the Leaders Discussion Group!
May the Lord bless you this springtime as you celebrate the resurrection of Christ, who is the Resurrection and Life!
Blessings, Sharra Badgley

Leader to Leader: Tips for Organizing Happy Field Trips By Carol Topp
Field trips are great, memorable experiences for many homeschool groups but may be a nightmare for the leader! Here are some tips to make organizing a field trip a happy experience for everyone--including the leader!
- Always collect money up front. If someone does not have to pay up front, they will probably be a no-show. This leaves the leader to pay their bill.
- Set an RSVP deadline so you won't have so much work close to the time of the trip.
- Set up a spreadsheet or a page in a word processor to keep track of who paid and how many will attend the field trip. Also keep email addresses and contact info in case there are some last-minute changes.
- Make up a waiting list. Frequently, someone gets sick or has a last-minute conflict and will cancel. Families from the waiting list can take their place.
- If the field trip is free, still collect a small refundable deposit. Return the deposit on the day of the trip. This will help cut down on no-shows.
- Avoid collecting money at the field trip location. You can make exceptions for last-minute substitutes off the waiting list. Your hands are full enough on the day of the trip; only deal with a list of names to check off instead of dealing with money at that time.

Have You Ever Wondered....Where the clothes you and your family wear come from?…Or the dressing you put on your salad?…Or the sheets and towels you use everyday? Did you know that fine writing paper, medical supplies, plastics, cosmetics, recording tapes and even the money you use to buy these things are made from COTTON?

Here's what our readers are saying:
"In comparing TOS with other magazines I receive, I noticed something interesting. When the other magazines arrive, I can sit down with my cup of coffee and read through them in an hour or so. Since receiving my latest issue of TOS, I have been reading it each evening before falling asleep and I'm still not through it yet! There is just so much to absorb. Thanks for filling your pages with 'meat' rather than 'fluff'."
